LG Display just patented a full-screen display module with a hole cut out for the camera and earpiece

LG is not expected to launch a new flagship device anytime soon, but the company does seem to be working on a something new in terms of a new full-screen display technology. A new report has found LG patenting a version of a display which is rounded at the edges and by the looks of it, spans the entire front of the phone.[caption id="attachment_4370359" align="alignleft" width="380"]

LG's newly patented full-screen Display.[/caption]The South Korean company filed an application for the patent in its home country on Tuesday with the translated name reading 'display module for smartphone'. The patent, however, does not show the smartphone and reveals only the display module with the screen. Based on the findings of a report by Dutch publication GSMinfo, the patent shows how LG wants to house the different display components that sit on the front of the device.Based on what can be made of the diagrams of the display, the camera and speaker have been bundled into a hole towards the top of the display with the screen running around it and then further up. The company has gone discreet as to provide any more details in terms of dimensions or references to future models.The design in itself is not radical in terms of design but it does suggest that LG Display is looking at non-conventional approaches for smartphone display. It must also be kept in mind that LG Display is also commissioned for various third-party parts including panels for two of Apple's upcoming iPhones.In a recent report, tipster Evan Blass mentioned that LG's upcoming flagship codenamed 'Judy' is expected to come with a 6.1-inch display, sporting a new type of display for the device called MLCD+. Blass mentioned that the Judy is expected to arrive only after June 2018.
