Samsung is finally joining the KitKat party, it has been revealed. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has become the first device from the company to get the Android 4.4 update. The rollout, oddly enough, is only limited to Poland right now. The update was first reported by Sammobile and the publication noted that the rollout is coming with the latest KitKat version, Android 4.4.2. For now, the update seems to be limited to the device model number SM-N90005, which happens to be the unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, with Snapdragon. Ars Technica has noted that while Samsung uses the Exynos processor internationally, the company ships the Note 3 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in the US. The proximity of model number SM-N9005 in Poland to the devices shipped to the US could well be indicative that carriers in the US should be next in line to roll out the KitKat update for Samsung’s flagship Note 3. Currently, the update is available in Poland only via Samsung’s Kies software but the over-the-air update should just be round the corner. The KitKat update for the Note 3, as well as for the Galaxy S4, was leaked over the weekend, showing a redesign was in store for Samsung phones along with this roll out. The leaked images showed that Samsung was going to do away with coloured icons in the status bar, adhering to KitKat’s design guidelines. White icons will be replacing the icons and there will also be a camera icon on the lockscreen. While the images didn’t divulge too much, Sammobile had said that there’s a little bump in performance as well as increase in benchmark scores. Samsung has also reportedly improved the keyboard performance. Note 3 users internationally will only have to twiddle their thumbs for a little longer because an official update should be heading their way some time soon.
