Kanpur police unveil new SOS Android app for women's safety

Women and girls in the city will soon be able to alert police control room and their family in hours of distress, thanks to a new mobile SOS app, which was launched in Kanpur. SSP Kanpur, K S Emanuel said that the motive behind designing the app is to bring down the incidents of eve teasing and crime against women. Any girl or woman, in event of any harassment or threat could just press the app icon on their phone and their location can then be traced instantly from the police control room. Apart from the police control room, a person could alert four other numbers in the list, who would also be alerted, he said. The app was launched by a special team from Delhi and will start functioning within 15 days, Emanuel said. He informed that the app can be downloaded on any android phone via 'Google apps'. PTI
