Indie developer Phil Fish cancels Fez sequel

Indie game developer Phil Fish has thrown in the hat. The developer has announced on the official Polytron website that the sequel to last year's critically acclaimed Fez has been cancelled, according to Polygon. The announcement comes in the wake of a tussle between Fish and Marcus Beer on Twitter.

No more Fez

Marcus Beer sparked the arguement with his comments on a recent episode of GameTrailer's Invisible Walls. He spoke about the media's efforts to reach out to indie developers about Microsoft's announcement that the Xbox One will have self-publishing for indie developers.

"Gents," Beer said. "You were the guys who did Indie Game: the Movie. And some of you looked relatively normal in it, one of you looked like a total tosspot in it. But you can't have it both ways. You're successful game designers — you're 'indie' game designers — hurrah, good for you, you f*****g hipsters."

After a long argument between Fish and Beer, the indie developer later tweeted, "I'm done. Fez 2 is canceled. Goodbye." Later, the official Polytron website tweeted, "It's with a heavy heart that we announce that FEZ II has been cancelled and is no longer in development. We apologise for the disappointment."

Fez was released last year on the Xbox 360 and recently hit PC through digital distribution platform Steam.
