Indian carriers place orders for nano-SIM cards

With the announcement of the iPhone 5 yesterday, many are speculating about the date when the smartphone will make its way to India. According to BGR, AirTel and Vodafone have already placed orders for new nano-SIM cards, which could point to Apple releasing the iPhone 5 in India relatively soon. Then again it could also mean that they’re merely preparing for the device’s inevitable launch in advance.

According to BGR, Airtel is sourcing the nano SIM cards from Oberthur and Vodafone is sourcing them from Syscom. Aircel is also said to be placing orders for the new smaller SIM cards. Apparently, almost every carrier will be supporting the new nano-SIM cards. This could make them more widely available than micro-SIM cards, as users can’t simply cut up their existing SIM cards any further without damaging them a bit. However, one would require adapters for existing handsets that only recently (with the launch of the iPhone 4) moved from the standard edition SIM to micro-SIM.

The iPhone 5 was launched during last night’s Apple event. Made entirely out of aluminium and glass, it weighs 112 grams and is 20 percent lighter than the iPhone 4S, and is the thinnest iPhone yet at  7.6mm thick. it’s the same width, but taller. Apple has chosen to debut iOS 6 with the iPhone 5 and the new set up includes Apple's own Maps application, an updated version of Siri and lots more. Overall, the new iPhone has been upgraded in almost all respects.

Apple says it has added more than 200 new features into the new iPhone, like the ability to control it through a car, cognizant features such as knowing when to alert you about returning calls if you missed any – and a whole lot more.

The iPhone 5’s connector has undergone much speculation about it being much smaller than ever. Well, after using the same connector for its devices for the last nine years, Apple has finally decided to change it on the iPhone 5. Called 'Lightning', the connector features an adaptive interface that uses only the signals that each accessory requires, and it’s reversible so you can instantly connect to your accessories. Apple will launch a Lightning-to-30-pin Adapter to connect iPhone 5 to legacy 30-pin accessories.

The Apple iPhone 5 will roll out worldwide to 22 countries on September 28, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. India, is as usual, not in the first round.
