Huawei P9 with dual camera to likely be unveiled at 6 April London event

While many were expecting Huawei to launch the P9 in February, the company gave an MWC launch a miss, probably favouring an April 6 London event. This won't be surprising as the P8 was also launched last year in London around mid-April.

While many were expecting Huawei to launch the P9 in February, the company gave an MWC launch a miss, probably favouring an April 6 London event. This won't be surprising as the P8 was also launched last year in London around mid-April.The company has now started sending out invites to select media for an April 6 event, clearly hinting at the P9 with the dual camera system that we've all been hearing about. The invite includes a hashtag, #00, and reads, "Change the way you see the world."Earlier this month, prolific tipster Evan Blass had put out a post on VentureBeat giving the complete low down on Huawei's upcoming P9 device. The smartphone is a successor to the Honor 6 Plus that surprised many with its imaging performance, thanks to its bionic parallel dual-lens camera. The leaked image shows a glass front with slimmer bezels on the sides, but abnormally large bezels on the top and bottom. The back shows off the all-metal build and this is where we notice the dual camera set up on the top, along with a dual tone LED flash and laser focus module below it, all enclosed within a glass insert.Confirming the specs, Blass had said that the individual who allowed him to get a short hands-on with the device also revealed that Huawei has a budget friendly P9 Lite, a P9 Max (or Plus) and even a premium model that packs in some premium hardware lined up.Going by previous reports, one can expect the premium version of the P9 to sport Huawei’s own HiSilicon-made Kirin 955 SoC with 4GB of RAM. The regular P9 is expected to pack in a Kirin 950, Mali-T880 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The standard P9 is expected to feature 32GB of storage while the premium model will feature 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. The camera is expected to pack in two 12MP sensors with Leica optics. Both model are likely to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
