HP unveils the Slate 21, a 21-inch tablet running on Jelly Bean and Tegra 4

HP has unveiled the new HP Slate 21 tablet at its HP World Tour event in Beijing. The tablet is a mixture of All-in-Ones (AIOs) as well as tablets. It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and is powered under the hood by an Nvidia Tegra 4 chip. Because of the huge 21-inch display, the Slate 21 is meant to be used as a desktop and features a kickstand that lets it sit upright.

The display on the tablet is full HD at 1080p. This gives it a pixel density of 105 ppi. Despite the low pixel density, the display should still be comfortable considering the fact that the tablet is meant to be used as a desktop computer. The tablet has a built-in dual-speaker setup with DTS Digital Theater technology. It also has a webcam with HP's TrueVision HD technology and Wireless Driect printing technology. There is no word on whether HP will be modifying the Android interface in any way with its own skins.

Nvidia had unveiled the Tegra 4 chip that the HP Slate runs on back in January during CES. The new processor boasts a number of improvements, including 72 graphics cores and better imaging capabilities. The CPU is based on ARM's latest Cortex A-15 architecture, which gives it a considerable boost compared to the current ARM Cortex A-9 based Tegra 3 quad-core chipset. The new chip sticks to Tegra 3's 4-plus-1 design. In this design, a fifth smaller core helps regulate the power among the four more powerful cores.

So far, HP hasn’t announced any pricing or launch details, but the tablet is expected to hit Chinese shores before making its way to the rest of the world.
