Google shipped approximately 3.9 million Pixel smartphones in 2017 says IDC data

Since its launch in India during the festive Diwali season, Google's Pixel sales have been witness to a considerable slump. Google does not provide sales numbers itself, but a new report by analyst firm IDC states that Google has sold approximately 3.9 million Pixels in 2017.[caption id="attachment_4233535" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Image: tech2/Rehan Hooda[/caption]The information shared by IDC's Research Director Francisco Jeronimo on his Twitter handle reveals that Google's number accounts for less than 1 percent of the global market. According to an image shared by Jeronimo, Google's shipments have doubled on record, but that statistic is misleading since the Google Pixel was launched in October 2016, allowing just two months sales to be recorded.The 3.9 million number hence does flatter Google's sales a fair bit, reiterating a report where have talked about Google's struggle with hardware products.In our review of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL we concluded that both phones offer great camera performance but it is perhaps Google's premium pricing and display issues that hurt sales.

Apart from the Google Pixel's shipments, Jeronimo also pointed out the Essential Phone's sales numbers.Andy Rubin's smartphone venture seems to have gotten off to a slow start with only 88,000 units sold so far. This could be a cause of worry since Essential did reduce the price of the phone from $699 to $499.
