Google lets you travel back in time with new clock tool for Street View

Time travel still eludes us, but Google doesn't want you to forget what things were in the past. So the search giant has added past photos of several locations to Google Maps' Street View feature. In a post on it official blog Google states, “Now with Street View, you can see a landmark's growth from the ground up, like the Freedom Tower in New York City or the 2014 World Cup Stadium in Fortaleza, Brazil. This new feature can also serve as a digital timeline of recent history, like the reconstruction after the devastating 2011 earthquake and Tsunami in Onagawa, Japan. You can even experience different seasons and see what it would be like to cruise Italian roadways in both summer and winter.” To use this time travel feature user will have to go to Street View interface in Google Maps. It will have a clock icon on the top left hand side. Clicking on it will open a preview of the image which will have a timeline beneath it. User can then see images from the past of the particular location by moving the slider across different years. As of now users can go back as far as 2007 only. This new feature looks great and seems like it will definitely find a lot of following. As of now this feature is available only for the web version of Google Maps. It is not clear whether Google will eventually roll out this feature to mobile versions of Google Maps.
