Gartner forecasts iPad's supremacy till 2015

According to a report by Gartner, Apple’s iPad tablet will continue its reign through the middle of this decade. The iPad has had 83 percent of sales of tablets in 2010 and that number is likely to drop to 73 percent, this year. Android tablets are going to pick up pace, but the sales will not exceed those of the iPad. All of the other tablets based on other operating systems will not exceed 5 percent of sales. Carolina Milanesi, Research VP at Gartner said that Apple will have more than 50 percent of the market share till 2014. This was because of the superior and unified user experience that the device offers along with the software and services. Gartner expects the situation to stay the same unless manufacturers decide to follow a similar approach as Apple.

Will continue to dominate

The growth of Android tablets has been limited due to their high prices, problems with the user interface and also in the unavailability of apps for the platform. Google will launch Ice Cream Sandwich, which should help improve those sales. Windows 8-based tablets might also do well, but that depends on the timing of their launch. A delayed launch would mean reduced interest among prospective customers. Apple’s success comes from powerful hardware and a good quality screen, something which its competitors tend to ignore.
