Facebook Messenger finally arrives on Windows Phone Store

Late last month at MWC 2014, Microsoft’s Joe Belifore had assured users that Facebook’s instant messaging app will arrive on the Windows Phone Store within “weeks”. And here it is. In its official blog, Microsoft has announced the availability of the Facebook messenger app. Facebook has also sent out an official tweet stating its instant Messenger for Windows Phone is now available for download.

 The Facebook Messenger version 3.0.12.0 can be downloaded for free from the Windows Phone Store. With the app, Windows Phone users can now view all their messages without the need to open the Facebook app, and also send stickers and photos privately. The list of features includes group conversations, sharing location, viewing who’s active on Messenger, turning off notification alerts and the ability to know when your message is seen by others. However, the app still doesn't support some features seen on other platforms like voice messaging. Windows Phone may have surpassed BlackBerry as the third most popular OS but it has been seriously adding some of the most used apps to the platform. Microsoft has accelerated the process of incentivising developers in submitting apps since the past year or so. Owing to Microsoft’s constant efforts, apps like Instagram, Vine and several others have already made their way to Windows Phone last year. BlackBerry Messenger is also expected to hit Windows Phone soon.
