Cortana is heading to India; to begin with Windows Insider program later this month

In the early days of Windows 10, there were reports of how India would have to wait for Cortana. Microsoft India Director Vineet Durani had mentioned back then, that Microsoft was updating the software with “strong local content”.What this essentially means is that Cortana needs to be sensitive to the cultural and geographical aspects of language across different markets. What may be funny in one market, could be offensive in another. Over the past few weeks, Microsoft has been working on getting Cortana to learn precisely that, in addition to the accent.In a post on the official Windows blog, Microsoft said “As we shared in July, we have been working very hard to make Cortana available in more markets and languages. Today, we will begin rolling out Cortana to Insiders on Windows 10 Insider Preview builds 10532+ as an optional download to Insiders in Japan and in English for Insiders in Australia and Canada.”The post added, “We also have an early version in English for Insiders in India, which will be updated with an improved voice later this month. With these rollouts, we hope to learn a lot from your feedback as we continue to improve the experience and refine it for each market.”The next few weeks will be important for Microsoft as it gets Cortana to learn the voice inputs from the vast pool of Windows Insiders in India.At the core, Cortana for desktop is similar to what we saw in Windows Phone, but it is more skilled at natural language, handling your daily appointments and similar other tasks.
