China shuts down 535 'porno' microblogs

Beijing:Chinese authorities have shut down535 microblog accounts over the past week alleging that theywere disseminating pornographic and lewd content.

Some individuals were found to have used their microblogaccounts to distribute video clips, pictures, text and linksrelated to topics such as "one-night stands," "flirtatiousself-shots and candid images" and "teen prostitution," theState Internet Information Office (SIIO) said today.

"These acts violated the law and have had a bad influenceon the public in terms of perverting social morals anddisrupting order on the Internet," it said.

The SIIO said public security authorities have beguncriminal investigations on some of the accounts' owners.
