BlackBerry launches BBM Enterprise SDK for providing secure messaging to Android and iOS apps

BlackBerry has announced that the BBM Enterprise SDK is now available for developers and companies to integrate into their platforms. The SDK has been tested initially with 60 select partners in a limited release. BlackBerry is offering BBM in the form of Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS), and allows businesses to easily add communications capabilities with strong encryption onto their existing applications.The platform supports messages, voice calls and video calls. Users can request read and received notifications, and there is also support to retract or edit messages. Other supported features include voice notes, group chat and file sharing. The SDK is an IP-based solution that runs on the BlackBerry Network Operating Center (NOC). BlackBerry claims that the resulting service offers much more security than the competition.The SDK builds on years of providing secure communications in some of the highest security organisations on the world. One of the early implementations of the SDK is for a law firm, which used to rely on messengers in bikes and taxis to deliver sensitive court documents, often related to cases that were being heard in court. The firm could not use an SMS-based networking SDK such as Twilio and instead turned to the superior security offered by the BBM Enterprise SDK.
