Apple working on a 5K Thunderbolt display with a dedicated GPU

Remember Apple’s very own Thunderbolt display with built-in USB ports? Well, it might just get an upgrade very soon. The display has been around for a very long time and an upgrade is highly possible as the current Thunderbolt display has a 2560X1440 resolution which is, if we dare to speak, outdated since 4K displays are becoming more mainstream.A report by 9to5 Mac says that Apple is working on a new version of the display which will come with a massive 5K (5120×2880) resolution and that is not even the best feature. Rumours also point out that the display will come with an inbuilt graphics processor enabling users to use Macs (or any other compatible PC) that are not very powerful. Basically if your Mac’s graphics processor is not powerful enough, it would utilise the GPU on the new display automatically.The new display is also said to come with the new Thunderbolt 3 technology to connect the display and GPU. Since it is based on the new USB Type C port, you won’t need different cables to connect to the new display. It will also be very similar to display of the new iMacs with movie grade colour accuracy, a built-in facetime camera and a light sensor.There is no confirmation of the release date, but it won’t be surprising if Apple announces these new displays at the upcoming WWDC conference on 13 June. Apple is also expected to announce iOS 10, new Macbooks, update to Siri, possibly a new Mac for this display and more.
