Android Wear software updates to be delivered via the Google Play Store

While Google did not give out the right vibes after taking down Android Wear-powered smartwatches from its Google Store, the company seems to have finally given out some positive news for users, when it confirmed that new features would now be available from the Google Play Store.[caption id="attachment_4130997" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Google Android Wear[/caption]Just when we thought that Google had given up on Android Wear, a Googler Hoi Lam on Android Wear Developers channel put out post explaining how Android Wear 2.0 makes it easier for Google to deliver new features to supported smartwatches.He explained that once updated to Android Wear 2.0, new features can be delivered to the smartwatch via the Play Store's software update system, reducing the need to wait for a firmware update, which do not appear all too frequently.Google's idea of providing software updates (that bring new features) through the Play Store, comes from its objective to provide more timely improvements to the OS between milestone releases.A recent upgrade was launched in a similar manner in the past week. It brought 3rd party chat app support in Contacts, reduced accidental entry into the watch face picker, improved Play Store discoverability and more.Google said that more such updates would be coming in the next few months giving some much-needed relief to fans of the platform, reiterating Google's interest in the platform.The news comes at a time when all eyes are on Android Wear, which appears to be a dying after the Apple Watch hogged up the smartwatch market share. In fact, a recent report even points out that Samsung's Tizen took over Android Wear's market share. This indeed could be due to Android Wear's restrictions, which prevents manufacturers from adding new features because of the limitations of the platform in terms of hardware choices, making every other smartwatch look and function in the same manner.
