The Samsung Galaxy S is certain to go down the history books as one of the all-time great handsets. It has been more than a year into its lifecycle and it continues to be a force to be reckoned with. Samsung’s continued support for the Galaxy S has widened its fan following, even more. We’ve just learnt that a new version of Gingerbread 2.3.5 is hitting the I9000 in the U.K., right now. It’s slowly trickling in, so if you don’t have it yet, don’t worry, it's probably being done phase-wise. This will upgrade your current firmware to XXJVT, which if you remember leaked about a month ago. According to the source, the update will be available through Kies, so in case you were banking on OTA, you might want to plug it to your PC and give it a shot.Latest build on it's way...

Like old wine, the SGS keeps getting better with age...

The update is not merely a version number upgrade, it brings with it quite a few tweaks and changes. There’s an animation shadow at the end of any list when scrolling. The messaging app gets a speed bump when you start it, open an SMS or send an SMS. The power consumption and in turn, the battery life gets a slight improvement as well. Bug fixes for some system apps and the constant hung-up homescreen have been implemented, as well. Market apps run more smoothly now. Finally, there have been some slight improvements to the camera as well, although it doesn’t state what they are exactly.

Before updating the firmware though, remember that all your existing apps will be wiped off so do remember to back up your phone. You can use any free tool like Titanium Backup to do this. If you happen to be on 2.3.5, do share your feedback below on what you think of it.
