Google doodle honours origami master Akira Yoshizawa

The Google Doodle today honours origami grandmaster Akira Yoshizawa on his 101th birthday. Yoshizawa born in 1911, is credit for single-handedly reviving the ancient Japanese art of paper folding called origami.Yoshizawa not only revived origami in Japan but was also responsible for its global spread. Japan realised the cultural significance and contribution of Yoshizawa and he served as an international cultural ambassador for the country. For his work the Japanese government honoured him with one of the highest civilian award, The Order of the Rising Sun in 1983.[caption id="attachment_243693" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Google Doodle today."][/caption]Yoshizawa also showcased his works of art at the famous Louvre museum in Paris in the 1998.The doodle on the Google homepage is a work by Robert J Lang, who is one of the world's leading origami artists.The Google logo, looks like an origami art work with butterflies on top. The butterfly design that Lang used in the doodle is the one that Yoshizawa popularised. This butterfly is also the symbol of the International Origami Friendship Society of Tokyo.
