New license for Splinter Cell sparks possible E3 announcement of a series reboot

Since the launch of the last "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" in 2013, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, series publisher Ubisoft has not teased Sam Fisher's fans to even a hint of a possible return. That seems to have changed after a recent trademark filing from Ubisoft where a new license was made under the category "Splinter Cell" as spotted on Justia (via SomosXbox). This hinted at the possible reboot of the game at the upcoming E3 convention, which is just around the corner.The website Justia collects a list of trademarks, and offers data related to the activity. Within the category of Splinter Cell one can observe a new license, which belongs to the company Ubisoft Entertainment. Also that the registration date 28 May, 2017 is very recent.Rumours had begun to emerge last year of a possible reboot of the franchise after Michael Ironside, who voiced Sam Fisher in the game, was reported to be back for the role. Even though Splinter Cell has been on hold for some years, the Tom Clancy series has continued under various pseudonyms like Ghost Recon: Wildlands and The Division. Last week saw the studio release its official E3 2017 trailer, which offered up a packed slate of confirmed games, unannounced titles, and a new IP. It won’t be too surprising if one of those mysterious games turn out to be a brand new Splinter Cell title.
