After the news about the PS4K or the PS4.5 that showed up online thanks to Giant Bomb, there's now news about Sony's competitor, Microsoft planning an Xbox One refresh. The news comes from The Verge who seems to have compiled a list of findings, which point to Microsoft currently testing a number of Xbox One prototypes equipped with varying hardware upgrades. The same report also states that those upgrade components would be similar the stuff that is usually used to improve the performance of a PC gaming rig. For now it cannot be confirmed that the updated console will get a new design.During the recent Microsoft Build 2016 conference, Microsoft's Xbox boss Phil Spencer made it evidently clear that the company would not be looking minor upgrades, but substantial ones that would make a difference to customers. "I'm not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers," Spencer said in conversation with GameInformer. He added, "If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people – an upgrade.".It indeed seems like a sudden rush to push out console upgrades even though the usual product refresh cycles are nowhere close to completion. Its just been two years since the Xbox One was released and Sony PS4 console is about two and half years old. Yet there is plenty of buzz around the launch of upgraded consoles. VR indeed could be the reason for the sudden need for upgrades. Microsoft is expected to unveil the updates console at the E3 which takes place from June 14-16 in at the Los Angles Convention Center.
