Night Dive Studios is an indie, game development studio that is working on creating a reboot of the original System Shock game.You’ve got to be a certain age to remember a game like System Shock, it was released in 1994 after all, a year before Doom and 4 years before Half-Life. System Shock and System Shock 2 can easily be considered to be among the scariest games ever made. They’re also very story-driven and if, like me, you played the game at a young age, the impression is everlasting.If you play the games now, you’ll be quite disappointed, especially in System Shock. The graphics and UI are too dated for modern sensibilities, unless you’re feeling extremely nostalgic.This is where Night Dive Studios comes in. Established by former Looking Glass employees (and founder), the studio that created System Shock, Night Dive has decided to work on a complete reboot of the franchise.Polygon managed to spend some time with the game. You can check out the gameplay footage here.Obviously, the game will be crafted on the very latest game engines and with the original creators at the helm, one can expect a greater degree of investment in the creation of the experience.In an interview, the founder of Night Dive tells Polygon that they want to make a game that embraces modern sensibilities while not alienating the original fan base. They say they’re working hard to craft a feeling of “extreme isolation,” a hallmark of the original games.Even in the original games you were a fragile, unnamed human in a space station with no human inhabitants. You do fight infected crew, but their bloodcurdling screams and other effects only served to highlight how alone you really were. Citing the Bioshock and Dead Space franchises, Night Dive says that inspiration comes from there. We can’t think of better alternatives.In even more interesting news, it’s come to light that there’s a System Shock 3 game in the works this that its creation will be the result of a joint cooperation between Night Dive and Other Side entertainment.
