Don't expect an Assassin's Creed or Far Cry game next year, says Ubisoft CEO

Ubisoft has asked fans to temper their expectations for a new Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed game next year. Considering the way things have gone with Ubisoft so far, they can take all the time they need.Ubisfot’s CEO told Gamespot that they saw an opportunity to take Assassin’s Creed to “the next level” and that they’ll take whatever time it takes to “make the experience fantastic.” They expect to “revolutionise the IP” with the latest entrant.Fans are used to seeing an Assassin’s Creed game every year, and, as Gamespot points out, this is the first time in 7 years that we didn’t see a major Assassin’s Creed game. 2017 will be the second time.I’ll come clean here and say that I’ve never been a fan of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. I liked the concept of the first game, loved the second game and feel that the franchise has only gone downhill from there. There were sparks of brilliance in subsequent games to be sure, but a Call of Duty-esque recreation of the same game every year is not to my taste.The fact that Ubisoft actually wants to take their time and do it right has me overjoyed. Assassin’s Creed is a popular game for good reason and it’s nice to see Ubisoft giving it the attention it deserves.It’s also nice to see Ubisoft do the same with Far Cry. Since purchasing the rights to the franchise from CryTek, the games have only been going downhill. Far Cry 2 was interesting, Far Cry 3 was spectacular, Far Cry 4 a bit of a grind. Far Cry: Primal was a drag.Assassin’s Creed fans need not fret over the lack of games though. There’s an Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender scheduled for 21 December and a remastered Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection is slated for a 15 November release.
