Apple new Siri update: iPhone-maker may bring all chatbots to one, set for WWDC 2026 reveal

For years, Siri has felt like a voice assistant stuck in a different era, useful for quick commands, but rarely the first choice for deeper, more meaningful queries. Now, Apple appears ready to rethink that equation entirely.

Instead of trying to build a single, all-powerful AI system, the iPhone-maker is exploring a more flexible approach.

According to the Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to turn Siri into a hub that can connect with multiple AI chatbots, allowing users to choose which one they want to interact with, depending on the task at hand.

The company is, reportedly, working on integrating a range of AI services, including ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, directly into Siri. Rather than replacing its assistant, Apple seems to be expanding it, opening the door to a more modular AI experience.

Apple Siri chatbot integration: How it could work

The system Apple is reportedly building relies on something called “Extensions”. In practice, this would allow users to link third-party AI apps to Siri, much like enabling integrations on other platforms.

Once set up, users could choose which chatbot to use for a particular query. For instance, a more creative task might be routed through one AI, while a factual query could be handled by another. The choice would sit with the user, not the system.

This approach also fits neatly into Apple’s broader ecosystem. The App Store already hosts a growing number of AI tools, from Microsoft Copilot to Meta AI and even Grok. If Siri becomes a bridge between these services, it could fundamentally change how users interact with AI on Apple devices.

There are still open questions, of course. It is unclear which chatbots will be officially supported or how deep the integrations will go. But the direction suggests Apple is less interested in picking a single winner in the AI race, and more focused on giving users access to all of them.

Why Apple is betting on multiple AI partners

This shift is not happening in isolation. Apple has already experimented with external AI partnerships, first bringing ChatGPT into its ecosystem and later exploring similar ties with Google’s Gemini.

Expanding that list makes strategic sense. The AI landscape is moving quickly, and today’s frontrunner can lose ground just as fast. By supporting multiple chatbots, Apple avoids being tied too closely to any one provider.

It also helps the company sidestep some of its own challenges. Building a truly competitive AI assistant from scratch is complex and time-consuming. By leaning on existing models, Apple can enhance Siri’s capabilities without waiting for its own technology to catch up.

There is a business angle as well. If users subscribe to third-party AI services through Apple’s ecosystem, the company stands to take a share of that revenue. In effect, Siri could become not just an assistant, but a marketplace for AI services.

Siri 2.0 upcoming features: Standalone app and AI upgrades

Alongside these integrations, Apple is reportedly preparing a broader overhaul of Siri itself. One of the most significant changes under consideration is a dedicated app for the assistant.

Instead of being limited to voice prompts or quick interactions, Siri could evolve into a more conversational interface, closer to modern chat-based tools. This would allow users to engage in longer, context-driven exchanges, rather than issuing one-off commands.

Features like “Write with Siri” are also said to be in development. These would enable the assistant to help draft emails, refine text or summarise information across apps, aligning with how AI is increasingly being used in everyday tasks.

The redesign is expected to bring a more structured, visually guided interface, making interactions feel less fragmented. In short, Siri could shift from being a background feature to a more central part of Apple’s software experience.

The updated assistant is likely to be unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) in June, with a wider rollout expected alongside future versions of iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

After 2 years of delay, Apple is now rigorously working to make Siri relevant again in a world where AI expectations have moved far beyond simple voice commands.
