Apple foldable iPhone images surface online: Here's what we know so far

A new leak has once again set the conversation around Apple's foldable iPhone abuzz. An image of what appears to be the final product has been leaked on Weibo by Ice Universe, and it would be fair to say that it points to a completely new approach to foldable smartphones. Prior to this reveal, several CAD renderings and schematic leaks had already offered a glimpse of what the device might look like.

The dimensions revealed by previous leaks suggested that the phone could measure 120.6 mm in height and 167.6 mm in width when unfolded. When folded, the device is expected to measure 9.23 mm thick. The leaked images showcase two color options—Silver and Navy Blue. The foldable is therefore expected to launch with a relatively simple color palette and without a third rear camera. Not much is known about the two-camera system that the device is rumored to feature.

The foldable iPhone is reportedly on track for a September launch, and reports suggest it could be an expensive affair, with an expected retail price of around $2,000.

A previous leak that revealed a case for the foldable showcased the apparent absence of a dedicated power button on the side. The listing also mentioned N52 magnets and showed a circular cutout for MagSafe alignment. The inclusion of magnets in the case suggests the device could support MagSafe charging and accessories.

However, since Apple has not officially confirmed any details, these remain leaks rather than definitive confirmations of the device's final design or features. Accessory makers often place early bets on upcoming products based on supply-chain rumors and industry speculation.

Foldable Display to Be Made by Samsung

Leaks have suggested that the display panel is being produced by Samsung using a custom manufacturing process reportedly trademarked by Apple. The process involves integrating touch sensors directly into the display panel while reducing thickness by approximately 19%. This engineering advancement could result in a lighter build and a more rigid display structure.

Apple has also reportedly shifted resources toward developing a new hinge design that is easier to repair than those used in some competing foldable smartphones. Chinese leaker Instant Digital has claimed that Apple is adopting a modular design approach that eliminates the complex internal ribbon-cable routing often seen in rival foldables.

Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra, in September 2026.
