From Jaitley to Sharad Yadav: Who said what on Centre's 'Snoopgate' probe

Centre today decided to appoint a Commission of Inquiry into the "snooping" on a woman in Gujarat allegedly at the behest of BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet under Section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act which empowers the Centre to set up such a commission.[caption id="attachment_1308005" align="alignleft" width="380"] Narendra Modi. PTI[/caption]The BJP criticised the government heavily, claiming the Congress was trying to target its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Meanwhile Congress party leaders hailed the government's decision.Here are some reactions:Nirmala Sitharaman (BJP): Setting up of an inquiry on a state subject, the union government is showing extraordinary enthusiasm in political oppression. The Congress is engaging in witch hunt and it is an attack on the Centre-State relationship.Arun Jaitley (BJP): Cabinet decision to appoint a Commission to probe alleged snooping is violative of the Federal structure. This action is politically motivated. The Congress Party has not learnt from the drubbing it got in the elections recently. It has continued with its strategy of fighting Narender Modi not politically but through investigative agencies and now through a Commission of Inquiry.Digvijaya Singh (Congress): I congratulate the central government. It should have happened much earlier because there is open violation of Indian Telegraph Act and Information Technology Act in this. Responsibility should be fixed in this matter.Rajnath Singh (BJP): The Congress is making attempts to harass Narendra Modi, but truth will be revealed. He is not affected by it.Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP): A tired Congress that has lost all hope is attacking Narendra Modi. The public will give it a fitting reply in the polls. Modi and BJP will win.Gurudas Kamat (Congress): I congratulate the Cabinet and the government for forming the commission of inquiry. But this should have happened much earlier.Sharad Yadav (JD(U)): When something like this is in the public domain then it is the responsibility of the government to probe it.Kamal Faruqui (Samajwadi Party): The Cabinet has taken the right decision, this should have happened a time long ago, anybody who has done this must be penalised.
