Jhumpa Lahiri will be taking her readers back to Calcutta in the 1960s in her new novel, The Lowland. The novel will be out in September, but for those who want a first look, Random House India has revealed the book's cover.Meru Gokhale of Random House India has described the book as, "moving, intelligent, heartbreaking" and Gokhale believes Lahiri's new novel will be "hailed as her finest book yet."[caption id="attachment_942581" align="alignleft" width="380"] Random House, India.[/caption]Set in Calcutta in the 1960s, The Lowlands is about two brothers, Subhash and Udayan, who are inseparable during their childhood. As they grow older, the differences in their personalities and political leanings separates them.Udayan finds himself drawn into the Naxalite movement while Subhash goes abroad to study and becomes an academic. An uncomfortable distance develops the two of them. Events take a tragic turn when Udayan is killed in a police encounter, leaving behind a pregnant wife.
