When people think of beaches, they usually picture golden sands, scenic sunsets and a relaxing day by the sea. But one beach in Gujarat has become famous for something very different.

Located on the outskirts of Surat, Dumas Beach is not just known for its coastline and food stalls.

Over the years, it has gained widespread attention because of the many local legends around ghosts stories and paranormal activities.

Just like some very places in India are famous for being haunted, this beach is also among those places.

Where is Dumas Beach?

Dumas Beach is situated around 21 km southwest of Surat city in Gujarat.

It is a popular weekend destination for locals and attracts visitors from across the state.

The beach is maintained by the Surat Municipal Corporation and is known for its distinctive black sand, which sets it apart from many other beaches in the country.

Visitors can also enjoy local snacks and street food such as tameta puri and bhajiye sold near the beachfront.

Why does Dumas Beach attract so much attention?

The beach's popularity goes beyond its natural beauty.

For decades, local folklore has linked Dumas Beach to paranormal stories. According to local beliefs, the area once served as a Hindu cremation ground. Over time, stories of unusual sounds and unexplained experiences became part of the beach's identity.

Adding it to the facet of dark tourism, these tales have helped build Dumas Beach's reputation as one of India's most mysterious tourist destinations. The stories continue to generate curiosity online and attract visitors who want to experience the place for themselves.

However, there is no verified evidence supporting claims of paranormal activity. The beach's reputation is largely based on urban legends.

The black sand remains the real highlight

While the stories often grab attention, one of the beach's biggest attractions is its unusual black sand shoreline.

The contrast between the dark sand and the Arabian Sea creates a unique landscape that draws photographers and tourists alike. Many visitors come simply to enjoy the sea breeze, take a walk along the shore or spend time with family and friends.

How to reach Dumas Beach

Dumas Beach is very well connected via road, train and air.

Surat is well connected by road to major cities, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Mumbai. Visitors can hire a taxi or take local transport from Surat to reach the beach.
