India's Vande Bharat Express has transformed rail travel by combining faster travel times with modern comforts such as reclining seats, onboard catering, large panoramic windows and improved safety features. Since its launch, the semi-high-speed train has connected major cities, pilgrimage centres and tourist hotspots, making it easier for travellers to cover long distances in less time.

If you're planning your next rail holiday, these five Vande Bharat routes are among the most rewarding to experience.

New Delhi–Varanasi

One of the first Vande Bharat services to be introduced, this route connects the national capital with Varanasi in just around eight hours.

For travellers, it's an easy way to visit the ancient ghats along the Ganges, witness the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, explore centuries-old temples and sample the city's famous street food. The reduced travel time also makes weekend trips far more practical.

Katra–Srinagar

Among the newest additions to the Vande Bharat network, this route has dramatically improved access to Kashmir.

The journey itself is a highlight, passing through mountain landscapes, tunnels and engineering marvels before reaching Srinagar. Travellers can continue to Dal Lake, Mughal gardens and Gulmarg, making it one of India's most scenic train experiences.

Mumbai–Gandhinagar

Connecting Maharashtra's financial capital with Gujarat's administrative capital, this Vande Bharat service is equally useful for business travellers and tourists.

Along the way, visitors can explore Ahmedabad's UNESCO-listed old city, the Sabarmati Ashram, the Statue of Unity, vibrant Gujarati cuisine and bustling local markets without spending an entire day on the train.

Howrah–Kamakhya

This route offers one of the easiest ways to reach Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India.

Many travellers use it as the starting point for visiting the revered Kamakhya Temple, exploring the Brahmaputra riverfront or continuing onward to destinations such as Shillong, Kaziranga National Park and Meghalaya's famous waterfalls.

Mumbai–Bengaluru

The upcoming Vande Bharat sleeper service between Mumbai and Bengaluru is expected to make overnight rail travel more comfortable for both business and leisure travellers.

Beyond connecting two of India's biggest cities, the route offers convenient access to hill stations, coffee plantations, heritage sites and the Western Ghats, making it attractive for weekend escapes as well as work trips.
