Women's Reservation Bill tabled in Lok Sabha, named 'Nari Shakti Vandan'

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday tabled the Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha. The Bill has been named as 'Nari Shakti Vandan.'The Bill was tabled by the minister amid uproar by the opposition, who were demanding more clarity on women's quota bill.Responding to them, BJP leaders said, "the revolutionary bill has been uploaded and can be viewed by the MPs.""The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023 is a very important Bill. We are inserting Article 239AA, through which 33 per cent women will get reservation in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi. We are making an amendment in Article 330A through which, reservation of seats for SC/ST which is already there, we are including 33 per cent reservation for women," Meghwal added.In Article 332, a sub category has been added by which 33 per cent of seats shall be reserved for women in the Legislative Assembly of every State, the minister further said.A new clause is being added to Article 334 by which shall cease to have effect on the expiration of a period of 15 years from the date of such commencement, reads the Bill.Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the Women's Reservation Bill is being tabled on Tuesday, while the discussion on it will take place on 20 September.Earlier, in his maiden address in new Parliament building's Lok Sabha, PM Modi backed more women's participation in the country.He also said that the cabinet has given its nod to much much-awaited women's reservation bill.“Work on women-led development is indispensable," PM Modi.The Bill seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.The bill was cleared by the Union Cabinet on Monday evening.
