Uttarakhand: Nigerian national held for defrauding Rs 60 lakh from man through fake ID

Dehradun: The Special Task Force of the Uttarakhand Police arrested a Nigerian national on suspicion of defrauding a Ranikhet resident of Rs 60 lakh after becoming friends with him on Facebook, officials reported on Wednesday."Olive, resident of a village near Lagos, was arrested from Humayunpur under the Safdarjang Police station in Delhi," Ajai Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Uttarakhand STF, told PTI.He claimed that the accused had been brought to Uttarakhand.According to Singh, the Nigerian national and his accomplices might have deceived residents of other states as well.Some more arrests are likely to be made in connection with this case, he added.The SSP reported that items taken from the accused's possession included two laptops, eight mobile phones, seven SIM cards, four wi-fi dongles/netshutters, sixteen pen drives, one card reader, three memory cards, one bluetooth gadget, and two passports.According to the officer, Olive made a fake Facebook account in the name of a foreign woman and issued friend requests to individuals.Once the friend request was accepted, he offered to send them gifts and parcels as a token of friendship. He, then, allegedly made them make payments online under the guise of customs, GST, RTGS, NEFT fees, and verification charges.He used to deactivate his false Facebook account after defrauding them of a significant money, the police said."The victim from Uttarakhand named Suresh Arya, who was a resident of Ranikhet, had lodged a case at the cyber crime police station, Kumaon region in Rudrapur," said Singh.Read all the Latest News, Trending News, Cricket News, Bollywood News,India News and Entertainment News here.
