Undesirable and unfit: Trilogy nightclub in Mumbai denies entry to couple for being Indian

"Undesirable and unfit". This is how a the Public Relations Manager at a nightclub in Juhu described an Indian couple Jennifer Chavan and Shanu Malik before denying them entry into 'Mumbai's most alluring nightspot Trilogy'.According to a report in Mid-Day, the Portuguese manager at the entrance of the club denied entry to the couple 'because they were Indians'. However Trilogy has denied making any such discrimination and maintained that the couple was denied entry because their names did not appear on the guest list.[caption id="attachment_2367344" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational Image[/caption]According to the police, complainants Jennifer Chauhan and Shanu Mallik had visited nightclub ‘Trilogy’ at Sea Princess Hotel in Santacruz (West) at 2.20 am on Sunday. The nightclub shuts at 3 am."It was my fiance’s (Mallik’s) birthday and we had gone to Trilogy to celebrate. “She (Natasha) said the management did not desire that Indians entered Trilogy. I do not know in what capacity she works there and what power she has to stop people from entering. We have visited Trilogy several times, but there has never been an issue before. We have nothing against the club,” Chauhan was quoted as saying by Indian Express.Times of India reported that following the 'No Indians please' comment by Natasha, the couple  approached another staffer but he directed them back to the door hostess, saying that she was in charge."When I asked why were we being denied entry, it led to an argument. I questioned how they could operate a nightclub in India and not allow Indians to enter," Mallik told TOI, adding that  they approached a few policemen who were around at that time. The couple has not registered any complaint against Trilogy, but against Natasha and another Trilogy staffer.The police also have taken the statement of the pub staff and collected the CCTV footage. They will soon start recording statements of the nightclub's employees to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the incident.
