Two injured as over 230 evacuated from IndiGo flight in Bengaluru after smoke detected onboard

More than 230 passengers and crew members were evacuated from an IndiGo flight at Bengaluru airport on Tuesday evening after smoke was detected in the aircraft’s cabin and cockpit, with two passengers sustaining minor injuries during the evacuation process, according to a PTI report, citing sources.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the incident involved IndiGo flight 6E 6017, an A321 aircraft registered as VT-IME, which was scheduled to operate from Bengaluru to Chennai.
According to the regulator, smoke was observed in the cockpit and cabin after the aircraft had pushed back and begun taxiing toward the runway.
"Crew carried emergency evacuation of passengers using all escape slides. During the evacuation process, two passengers received minor injury. The aircraft has been grounded for inspection/rectification," DGCA said, adding that it is investigating the incident.
More from IndiaIn a statement, IndiGo said all passengers and crew were safe and had been shifted to the terminal, where airline teams were assisting them.
"On 26 May 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 6017 from Bengaluru to Chennai was taxing out to the runway for departure, smoke was noticed in the aircraft. In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out, and all the relevant authorities were informed," the airline said.
The airline added that an alternate aircraft had been arranged to operate the flight.
