Tripura: 4 terrorists surrender, deposit arms and ammunition

Agartala: Four terrorists, after fleeing from their camps in Bangladesh, have surrendered to the Assam Rifles in Tripura and deposited arms and ammunition, said an official."Four militants of NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) - Parimal Debbarma, Mohan Kumar Koloi, Bibas Tripura and Darendra Tripura - laid down their arms before Assam Rifles officials in Anandabazar in Tripura on Thursday evening," a police spokesman told reporters.[caption id="attachment_1549773" align="alignleft" width="380"] Image used for representational purpose only. Reuters[/caption]They deposited huge cache of arms and ammunition including a machine gun, said the spokesman.The Assam Rifles troopers motivated the militants who took up arms training in Bangladesh and returned to India recently, according to an official."The NLFT militants, hiding in their camps in Bangladesh, are facing a huge financial crunch and its cadres are frustrated over the style of functioning of their leaders. There is a high degree of resentment among the cadres. The disintegration of the militant groups has already started," the official said quoting the militants.The militants, who surrendered told police that top leaders of the NLFT are leading a luxurious life in Bangladesh, but the cadres are left with no means to survive in camps and hideouts in forests.The union home ministry earlier banned the NLFT and another extremist outfit All Tripura Tiger Force in 1997.Police and the Border Security Force said the two outfits have set up camps in Bangladesh and received support from separatist groups of the region.They have been seeking secession of Tripura from India.IANS
