Stumped by Indrani incident, Maharashtra mulls CCTV in jail cells despite privacy murmur

Safety of inmates is our priority. In any case, in women's jail, CCTVs are monitored by women staff," BK Singh, Inspector General (Prisons), told DNA.The 48-year-old Mukerjea, accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, was on Friday rushed to JJ hospital from Byculla jail in an unconscious condition after she allegedly took an overdose of anti-depressant pills.Mukerjea regained consciousness on Sunday and was "out of danger" as she responded to the treatment.She was arrested on 25 August for her alleged crime. The high-profile case was initially handled by Mumbai Police under the supervision of the then Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria and later transferred to CBI by Maharashtra government. The central agency last month filed a murder case against the three accused. On 7 September, Mukerjea was sent to judicial custody.(With inputs from PTI)
