Skoda reveals details for Kodiaq SUV and Octavia RS in India

Skoda has unveiled the much anticipated SUV Kodiaq for the Indian market. According to a report by News18.com the car is expected to arrive in the market by the fourth quarter of 2017. The car was unveiled last year in Germany and is named after the Kodiak bear found in Alaska. One thing to note here is that we could not confirm the details from any official source at the time of writing.[caption id="attachment_3915751" align="alignleft" width="380"] Image Courtesy: Skoda[/caption]According to the product page for Kodiaq SUV on Skoda's website, the car is made on the Volkswagen's MQB platform giving it the underpinnings found in Skoda's Octivia and Superb. The car comes in two diesel and three petrol engine options alongside three transmission variants of 6-speed manual, 6-speed DSG and 7-speed DSG. The report points out that India is only expected to have the 2.0-litre diesel engine with 7-speed DSG transmission variant.Skoda has claimed that the car will feature the largest boot capacity among all other cars in its segment. If rear seats of the car are folded a boot space capacity of 2,065 litres is created.[caption id="attachment_3915733" align="alignnone" width="850"] Image Courtesy: Skoda[/caption]The car also features adaptive cruise control, emergency auto braking, dynamic chassis control to accommodate different riding modes and Skoda Connect.Skoda is also reintroducing the Octavia with a new model called as the Octavia RS for the Indian market.According to the product page on Skoda's website, the sedan will be offered in two engine options namely a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.8-litre engine producing a horsepower of  220 bhp and a 2.0-litre engine which provides a horsepower of 184 bhp and peak torque of 380 Nm. Indian markets will have access to the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine, with a 6-speed transmission gearbox.[caption id="attachment_3915741" align="alignnone" width="850"] Image Courtesy: Skoda[/caption]The new Skoda comes with paddle shifters, ambient lighting, traction control, dual-zone climate control, and a touchscreen infotainment system alongside blind spot management and lane-assist.Both the cars will be reportedly manufactured at the company's Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra. Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X are likely to provide a tough competition to Skoda Kodiaq SUV. The Octavia RS is expected to be priced at around Rs 20 Lakh and will be available in the markets by September.
