Sanjay Roy, RG Kar rape-murder case accused, refuses consent for narco analysis, court rejects CBI's request

Sanjay Roy, the lone accused in RG Kar rape and murder case, on Friday denied giving consent for a narco analysis test, following which a local court in Kolkata rejected the CBI's request to conduct the procedure.

Earlier in the day, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) approached Kolkata-based Sealdah court, seeking permission for conducting a narco-analysis test on Roy.

The CBI, which has been probing the case in which a 31-year-old junior doctor was found raped and murdered at the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar Medical and Hospital on August 9.

The investigating agency said it wanted to conduct the narco analysis test of Roy to "primarily cross-check” if he is telling the truth.

“The narco analysis test will help us to verify his version,” a report by PTI quoted a CBI officer as saying.

Narco analysis test, also known as narco test, is a type of investigative tool used to get information from a person by administering a drug sodium pentothal injection which is known as "truth serum" andit takes him to a hypnotic state, and his imagination is neutralised.

The situation allows the person them to speak more freely and without inhibition, making easier for investigators to get true answers from him.

Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, was arrested by cops last month for his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of the junior doctor of RG Kar Hospital.

He is the only person to have been arrested in the Kolkata rape and murder case.

CCTV footage from the day of the alleged crime showed Roy entering the seminar hall at 4:03 am. His Bluetooth headphones were also found at the crime scene.

Meanwhile, extensive protests are being carried out by the junior doctors in Kolkata demanding justice for the junior doctor whose autopsy report revealed she had 25 internal and external injuries on the body.
