Nearly 40,000 students complete CBSE re-evaluation applications after portal restoration

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday said that nearly 40,000 students of Class 12 have successfully completed the application process for verification of marks and re-evaluation after the restoration of its online portal.

The development comes a day after CBSE officially relaunched its Class 12 marks verification and re-evaluation portal following a technical outage that left thousands of students anxious.

In an official update issued on Wednesday, the board said that students can now access payment gateways of SBI, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda and Indian Bank on the verification and re-evaluation portal.

CBSE clarified that candidates do not need to hold accounts with any of these banks and can use the available payment gateways to complete transactions.

Students can make payments through multiple online options, including UPI, net banking, credit cards and debit cards. The board said that the process has been functioning smoothly since the portal was restored and urged students to rely only on official CBSE communications for correct information.

Portal restored after technical disruption

The portal had experienced a temporary shutdown over the weekend after a sudden surge in traffic reportedly caused server crashes.

The disruption coincided with the application period for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 board examination results, raising concerns among students who were seeking a review of their marks.

CBSE announced the restoration of the system through its official social media channels, assuring students that the application process had resumed.

The board said that as of Wednesday morning, nearly 40,000 candidates had already availed themselves of the facility and completed their applications without facing any issues.

Developments come amid OSM controversy

The restoration of the portal comes amid wider scrutiny of CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system applied in the evaluation of answer sheets of Class 12 students.

The Centre recently transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta and reportedly ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities linked to the procurement and implementation of the digital evaluation platform.

On Tuesday, the government appointed Lokhande Prashant Sitaram as the new CBSE Chairperson and Varun Bhardwaj as the new Secretary. The changes were announced amid concerns related to the OSM system and questions over cybersecurity and the tendering process associated with the platform.

Despite the ongoing controversy, CBSE has maintained that the verification and re-evaluation process is functioning normally and has advised students to follow only official announcements for updates regarding their applications.
