Mumbai woman gangraped while house hunting, seven accused nabbed

A 28-year-old woman, who was looking for an accommodation along with her husband, was raped by eight men on Monday night in suburban Jogeshwari in Mumbai. The police on Tuesday nabbed seven of the eight accused, while one person remains at large.The woman was admitted to a hospital and is stated to be stable, police said.[caption id="attachment_3055646" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. Reuters[/caption]The incident occurred in Shamnagar slum area near Amboli last night when the couple were searching for an accommodation with the help of another woman. The eight accused were allegedly from the same locality where the incident took place.Since it got late, the couple chose to stay at the woman's house, police said. After sometime, eight men barged into the house and gangraped the woman in front of her husband before fleeing, according to PTI. However, there were conflicting accounts of the incident in various media reports, According to NDTV, three men took the woman's husband out on the pretext of some work and the rest stayed behind and allegedly gangraped the woman."After the incident, the woman and her husband reached Amboli police station to lodge a complaint. Police registered a case against the eight suspects, one of them had criminal records," Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe said.A case has been registered against the eight accused under sections 376 D of the IPC with Amboli police station, according to Hindustan Times. The police said that all arrested fall in the age bracket of 20-25.With inputs from PTI
