IPL spot fixing case: 2 bookies get bail, Chandila has to wait

The court today granted bail to two alleged bookies arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the IPL spot-fixing case and also completed the formalities for the release of the 18 persons, including former  Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan.Alleged Bookie 'Rocky' and player-turned-bookie Amit Singh were granted bail today by the court on grounds of parity that the 18 others were granted bail yesterday. The duo will be released from Tihar later this evening.[caption id="attachment_862939" align="alignleft" width="380"] Sreesanth and some bookies who were arrested by the Delhi police: Naresh Sharma/Firstpost[/caption]The third Rajasthan Royals player accused of indulging in spot fixing, Ajit Chandila, also applied for bail but his plea will come up for hearing only tomorrow.The Delhi Police today also moved an application seeking the  custody of alleged bookie Sunil Bhatia, who is presently currently in judicial custody. The plea along with Bhatia's bail application will be heard again by the court tomorrow.The police had sought custody on the grounds that they wanted to confront him with Ramesh Vyas, alleged to be a major bookie who had direct links with Dawood Ibrahim's criminal syndicate. The Delhi Police had obtained the custody of Vyas (who was arrested by Mumbai Police) only on 8 June.The police has alleged Bhatia is an important link and that his role was fix and threaten players, in addition to passing on information to others in the betting racket network.Bhatia’s lawyers opposed the police remand on the grounds that a previous request by the Delhi Police to extend police custody was rejected by the court and that there were no intercepts of calls between Vyas and Bhatia that indicated there were in touch with each other.
