"The government in the national capital cannot be run from jail," said Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Wednesday.

“I can assure the people of Delhi that the government will not be run from jail," LG Saxena said at the Times Now Summit.

The LG's statement came against the backdrop of statements by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which said their supremo Arvind Kejriwal will continue as chief minister and will run the government even if he is behind bars.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday (March 21) night in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. He became the serving chief minister to have gone to jail.

On Friday, Kejriwal was remanded to ED's custody till March 28 "for his detailed and sustained interrogation" regarding his role in the alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy scam.

The BJP has also demanded the resignation of Kejriwal on moral grounds.
