Centre to set up network of skill development institutes

New Delhi: Government will set up a network of development institutes to supplement the ongoing efforts of skill development, Lok Sabha was informed today.

He said modalities would depend upon the assessment of gaps and taking into consideration the facilities and funding.

Rudy said a number of ministries and departments under the Central government have skill development centres or institutes across the country.

The National Skill Development Corporation has developed a capacity of 82 million training with 159 training partners having 1,408 centres in 356 districts in 27 states and five Union territories, he said.

The minister said the Department of Rural Development has 577 functional rural self employment training institutes spread over 556 districts.

Ministry of Textiles is implementing integrated skill development scheme wherein implementing agencies are operating training centre pan-India.

"The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has 18 existing technology centres with 15 new technology centres in the pipeline. Moreover, there are 11,964 industrial training institutes (government 2,284 and private 9,680) affiliated to National Council for Vocational Training in the country," he said.
