Three militants shot dead in Meghalaya

Shillong: Three armed militants were shot dead today, while one was captured and another escaped during a police raid on their camp in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills district today.Three United Achik Liberation Army militants were shot dead by a special police commando team which raided their camp in Sampalgre area, said Inspector General of Police (Western Range), H Nongpluh.[caption id="attachment_1255551" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Reuters[/caption]He said that an injured militant was captured and another named Norok, a former leader of the ANVC group which signed a tripartite ceasefire agreement with the Centre, escaped.Norok, was released from the district jail earlier this year. A search was being made to capture the escaped leader who was believed be involved in the killing of seven revellers in Assam's Goalpara district earlier this month.He was also responsible for shooting dead two jailers and attacks on security forces in the district, police sources said.The police recovered a pistol, a few grenades and documents from the camp.
