108 children rescued, 25 arrested from Mumbai factories

In a major crackdown on child labour, 108 children working in small scale industry units in Madanpura area of south Mumbai, were rescued.

Mumbai: In a major crackdown on child labour, 108 children working in small scale industry units in Madanpura area of south Mumbai were today rescued and 25 persons arrested for allegedly employing them.The accused, including owners and managers of various units involved in bags, purse making and zari manufacturing, were booked under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act, Child Labour Act and Indian Penal Code, police said.[caption id="attachment_344020" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="108 children were rescued from industrial units in Mumbai."][/caption]The raid was conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Dhobale-led Social Service Branch in coordination with NGOs.The rescued children, aged between 8 and 14 years were sent to a remand home, and the process of contacting their relatives has started.PTI
