M&M joins compact car race with Verito

Kolkata: Automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) would stick to Verito platform for its passenger car portfolio.

"M&M will use the Verito platform only to produce passenger cars by introducing a number of variants," Ravinder Sahane, senior GM (brands) of M&M said today.

To foray into the passenger car segment, the company entered into an agreement with Renault of France by manufacturing Logan sedan. After severing ties with Renault,

the company launched Verito sedan on the Logan platform. Launching Verito Vibe hatchback here today, the company was eyeing the compact sedan segment which has an

annual sales volume of one million units.

M&M was manufacturing the Verito series at its Nasik plant having a capacity of 3000 units per month. "If needed, the company will increase the capacity," Sahane told reporters.

He said the company sold 15,000 units of Verito sedan last year, lower by 3000 units than the previous year. Sahane said that M&M would manufacture only diesel-powered passenger cars, adding that company's expertise lies in diesel engines only.
