India, Japan to replicate auto success in shipbuilding, aviation: PM Modi after talks with Takaichi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India and Japan will replicate the success of their partnership in the automotive sector across new industries, including shipbuilding, aviation and logistics, as the two countries deepen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

Addressing a joint press conference after bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Modi said the two economies are complementary and share a strong foundation of mutual trust, paving the way for broader cooperation in manufacturing, technology and human capital.

"We will now replicate the success story we achieved in the automotive sector across fields such as shipbuilding, aviation and logistics," Modi said.

Highlighting the growing people-to-people relationship, the Prime Minister said both countries are expanding collaboration in talent mobility, skill development and technical internship programmes while strengthening partnerships in research, education and startups.

Modi also noted that India and Japan will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year and said the milestone will be marked by deeper engagement in culture, tourism and the creative economy.

Stressing that India and Japan share common values and a similar outlook on technology and development, Modi expressed confidence that the partnership would support Japan's vision of a strong and prosperous nation, India's goal of becoming a developed country, and contribute to global growth and stability.

The remarks came as the two leaders agreed to broaden cooperation across strategic sectors, underscoring the expanding scope of India-Japan economic and technological ties.
