"OSS Camps Foster Communication And Collaboration"

In a bid to popularise Open Source Software, Impetus Technologies recently hosted the OSS camp. Vineet Tyagi, associate director of Engineering, Impetus Technologies shares his thoughts on how technology decision makers could benefit from such camps, and also discusses the latest innovations at iLabs.

Tell us about the latest innovations taking place at your iLabs?

Impetus Labs or iLabs is our initiative to stay aware, informed and ahead of new developments in the technology space. iLabs works on exploring new technology domains like mobile, wireless, new media, speech, IPTV and VOIP. iLabs is currently working on several innovations such as blue tooth based coupon solutions, mobile based traffic forecasting solutions and SMS based real time feedback.

Could you detail some of the applications developed in the Web 2.0 space by Impetus?

Impetus has invested significant time, effort and technology expertise to research open source technologies that can help leverage Web 2.0 concepts for new ideas or existing web applications or websites.

We have done significant work on Web 2.0 technologies including J2EE, .NET 3.0, Ruby on Rails, LAMP, REST, OpenLaszlo, Flex, Brew, J2ME, Symbian, FlashLite, VOIP, IPTV. One application, for instance is a Human Lost and Found portal concept based on social collaboration, participation and harnessing collective human effort for a common good. The portal supports human collaboration features to help find lost people.

Such camps provide a platform for the communities to come together and collaborate on open source technologies and tools. The technology enthusiasts put their views, share their ideas and work with others. Who knows the next big idea could take birth in this kind of a conference.

We have received very good response from the OSS Camp, Delhi. Before this event, we were also sponsors of the BarCamp and Momo events in December '06 and January '07 respectively.
