Chhattisgarh Emerges As Best e-Governed State

Chhattisgarh pipped states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa to be declared as the best e-governed state.

Chhattisgarh state has bagged three out of the four e-governance awards declared by the Computer Society of India (CSI) and Nihilant India for 2007-08.

Chhattisgarh pipped states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa to be declared as the best e-governed state. The state's food department was declared the 'best e-governed department' whereas its e-procurement project was selected as the best project in the 'best e-governed project' category.

The fourth category in which Chhattisgarh did not participate was the best e-governed district.

The awards were announced in Hyderabad recently.

The awards are in recognition to the state's coming up as an IT hub in the country, Chhattisgarh Information and Biotechnology Promotion Society's secretary, IT and chief executive officer, Aman Singh said.

Gujarat was the recipient of best e-governed state award for last two years and this year there were a host of top rung states in the fray. "But Chhattisgarh bagged the award," Singh said.

According to the IT secretary, the organisers had received 10 entries for the best e-governed state category, 12 entries for best e-governed department category and 90 entries for the best e-governed project category. After the preliminary screening, 8, 10 and 59 entries in the respective categories were selected.

Chief minister Raman Singh has congratulated the officials of the Information Technology (IT) department of the state on the occasion. (PTI)
