Adani Ports secures 10-year marine services deal for Argentina’s first LNG export project

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking the company’s entry into South America and further expanding its international operations.

The contract has been awarded to APSEZ’s step-down subsidiary Adani Harbour International FZCO through a consortium with Argentina-based Meridian Group. The deal was secured after a global competitive tender conducted by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA).

Under the agreement, the consortium will provide end-to-end marine services for the project, including tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics, supply support and crew transfer services. The operations will be supported by four high-specification tugboats, including two newly built vessels.

The Southern Energy FLNG project is being developed by SESA, a joint venture between Global LNG and Pan American Energy (PAE). Located in Argentina’s Rio Negro Province, the project will liquefy natural gas from the General San Martin pipeline aboard the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) vessel Hilli Episeyo.

Commercial operations are expected to begin in September 2027. In the first phase, the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, equivalent to around 28 cargoes every year.

Argentina is emerging as a major LNG supplier and has agreements in place to support exports of up to 10 million tonnes annually to India from 2027. The project is expected to strengthen energy trade links between India and Argentina.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said the agreement highlights the company’s growing capability in supporting global energy infrastructure projects.

“This project reflects our growing capability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across geographies,” Gupta said.

He added that with marine operations across 12 countries and a growing fleet of marine assets, APSEZ aims to create reliable maritime ecosystems supporting new energy trade corridors.

The contract will be executed through Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A., a 51:49 joint venture between Adani Harbour International FZCO and Meridian Group.

APSEZ said the partnership strengthens its position in global marine services while expanding its role in emerging LNG supply chains.
