Firstpost Playlist: For sports lovers and gaming fans, there's a tune for everyone

For gaming buffs and sports fans (be it cricket or wrestling), lovers of melody and the actor Fawad Khan — this week's Firstpost Playlist has a little tune for everyone. So what are you waiting for? Put on those earphones and hum along!'The Dragonborn Comes' cover by MalukahThis one is for all my fellow gamers.But even if you are not a gamer or have not played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, this cover of the song 'The Dragonborn Comes' by Malukah will probably give you goosebumps.If you have played the game, this cover will blow your mind. Remember the time you walked into an inn in Skyrim and heard the bard sing or requested him/her to sing 'The Dragonborn Comes'? This cover, according to me, is at least twice as good as any of the versions of the song we hear in the game. This song will make you want to shout 'Fus Ro Dah!' as loudly as you can.The second part of the song is actually the main soundtrack of Skyrim, and is written in the language of the dragons in the game (Don't worry, there is actually no dragon language — although it would be pretty cool if there was something like that. This is not a drill. FAWAD KHAN CAN SING. I repeat, this beautiful, beautiful man, sings like a dream. Before he became an actor, Fawad Khan was a part of an Alt Rock band called Entity Paradigm. In the Coke Studio video here, the band (which has Fawad singing the lead part) performs a song called 'Bolo Bolo', and as it plays out, you'll realise that the man can really sing. Who'd have thought?!There's not much else to say about 'Bolo Bolo' apart from the fact that it's quite hummable. But mostly we couldn't keep our eyes off Fawad (no surprise there). To quote a colleague from Firstpost, "Farhan Akhtar should learn from Fawad".— Swetha Ramakrishnan'Bolo Na' by Shankar MahadevanAlthough Shankar Mahadevan won a National Award for 'Bolo Na' in 2013, this is one of his lesser known songs. The song, which is featured in the film Chittagong, has a serene quality to it, with the sarod and guitar complementing the vocals. The composition is based on the raag Bageshri, associated with the meditative tranquility of midnight. Unlike the high-pitched vocals that he is associated with, Shankar Mahadevan's rendition is sedate and measured. 'Bolo na' has a musical quality which grows on you with time.— Neeraj Pandharipande'Champion' by Dwayne BravoIt is cricket season, with the ICC World T20 heading into its grand finale at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. Thus, my pick for the Firstpost playlist for this week is West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo's single 'Champion', which has been defining his side’s progress in the tournament all the way to the final.It is not Bravo’s first stint in the music industry of course, having launched a single ‘Chalo Chalo’ in May last year along with Trinidadian artist Nisha B.The lyrics of ‘Champion’ may not be very rich, but the tune has a very Caribbean feel to it. Bravo mentions former West Indian cricketers such as Brian Lara, Malcolm Marshall, team-mates such as Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, etc. which gives us the impression of Bravo talking about the achievements of the African diaspora in sports, as well as other walks of life.The song has become somewhat an anthem for the team in the tournament, and the players will be breaking into the ‘Champion’ step after every fall of wicket. What ‘Gangnam Style’ was to the ‘Calypso Kings’ in the 2012 edition of ICC’s premier 20-over international tournament, ‘Champion’ is to the current edition.— Amit Banerjee'Know Your Role (The Rock theme)' by Jim JohnstonApril 3 is WrestleMania 32 day! And Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is scheduled to make an appearance, although not really to fight. So listening to the Know Your Role theme music is par for the course, for anyone who grew up in the late '90s during the WWF Attitude era. Yes, I know the wrestling is fixed and all that, but WWF and later WWE from the Attitude era is something which a lot of us still fondly remember. Who hasn't asked their friends, "If you smell...what The Rock...is cooking?' (We still don't know the answer to that, by the way;)The theme songs for the WWF Superstars were as legendary as the wrestlers themselves. While The Rock has had many different themes since his entry into WWF as Rocky Maivia, Know Your Role is one of the most recognisable till date. The bassline which evolved from the original theme by Jim Johnston, is accompanied by drums and some weeping electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Lyrically there is nothing much apart from a vintage Rocky put down, which is as much fun as his signature move — the Rock Bottom. The Rock may have jumped ship to Hollywood, but the chants of 'Rocky! Rocky!' never stop at Wrestlemania. Check out the hysteria his entry in Wrestlemania 31 caused.Parting tip: Also, WrestleMania 32 is happening in Texas, Austin — which is the hood of The Rattlesnake, aka Stone Cold Steve Austin.
