Censor Board throws a fit over use of the word 'virgin' in 'Finding Fanny' dialogues

After asking Yashraj films to make multiple cuts in Mardaani, the Censor Board has now trained its conservative eye on Finding Fanny Fernandes.According to sources, the Board has asked the makers of the film to remove the word 'virgin' from one of the dialogues in the film. They have have also made it clear that the film will face trouble in getting a U/A Certificate unless they comply with the directive.The orders reportedly came from the CBFC Chairperson Leela Samson whose personal assistant, Deepak Tandel, had asked the film's director, Homi Adjania, to remove the offending word.[caption id="attachment_1682575" align="alignleft" width="380"] Poster[/caption]In a scene in the film, Deepika Padukone turns towards Arjun Kapoor and tells him that she is a virgin. Tandel had told the makers to delete the word 'virgin' from the dialogue. This has not gone down too well with Adjania who argued that the word 'virgin' has been used in other films.For instance, in Dil Se Preity Zinta had asked Shah Rukh Khan if he was a virgin and more recently in 2 States, Alia Bhatt asked Arjun Kapoor if it was his 'first time'. Adjania believes that the Board is unfairly targeting Finding Fanny.It was rumoured that Tandel was acting arbitrarily when he suggested the aforementioned change. However, he has denied these accusations and stated that he took this decision in consultation with another member of the Censor Board.Tandel revealed that he had also objected to a scene in the film where Dimple Kapadia's skirt is torn. He had asked Adjania to tone down the content of this scene as well.Finding Fanny is a quirky satire starring Naseeruddin Shah, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Pankaj Kapur. It is produced by Maddock Films in association with Fox Star Studio and is slated to release in English and Hindi on September 12.
